Les tests basés sur les anticorps, tels que les dosages immuno-enzymatiques (DIE), les Western blots et les tests rapides (y compris les autotests) sont utilisés dans le monde entier comme tests de dépistage du VIH car ils sont relativement peu coûteux, faciles à réaliser dans de nombreux contextes et fiables.1 Les prestataires de santé utilisant ces tests sans être sensibilisés à la SPIV pourraient interpréter un résultat positif comme une véritable infection par le VIH.1 Pour éviter les erreurs d’interprétation des résultats des tests (p. ex. des résultats « faux positifs »), des tests qui détectent directement les composants viraux, tels que la PCR, doivent être utilisés à la place ou en plus des tests de dépistage standard du VIH.
